Winter Hair Care Routine l 8 ways my Hair is Protected
In the winter hair care routines can change depending on where you are located. If your location gets cold like mine here are some ways your hair can still thrive during these months.
As always if you prefer to watch a video check out this one Below!
Here are 8 ways I Protect my hair during the winter months.
1.) Protective Styles
In the winter months I make sure to cover my hair as much as I can. I've noticed in the winter my hair breaks more easily. Tucking away my hair decreases breakage.
2.) I increase my conditioning
I do this by deep conditioning my hair more. My go to deep conditioner is actually homemade. It consist of Mayo, eggs. and tea tree oil.
3.) I Cut back on watering my hair
I opt to seal in moisture with heavy butters (like Shea Butter) and thick sealants under my protective styles. If I wet my hair too often during this cold season I find myself uncomfortable and ill. This is truly an "to each their own" step as I know of people that continue to wet their hair the same way they would in the summer.
4.) I Trim my Hair more often
I normally try to trim my hair every six weeks. In the winter I opt to do it every 4 week when I take my hair down from it's protective style. I do this to prevent break from split ends
5.) Protein Treatments
In the winter I get protein treatments every 6 weeks. This practice helps to strengthen my hair. It also increases my elasticity.
6.) Braids, Braids, and more Braids!
This one could fall under protective styles. However I am also talking about Braid outs instead of twist outs. When my hair is braided I am able to retain more moisture. Even when the braids appear dry, they are not. When I unravel my hair it will feel and be moisturized and shiny. It will look as if I applied oil.
7.) Less Manipulation
I keep my hair in the same style for at least a month. I leave it alone.
8.) Blowouts
I may get a blow out to ensure my hair is trimmed correctly. Also this is a very easy style for me to maintain in the winter time. Also if I am going to dye my hair, it is done in the winter.
