Rice Water - Benefits and Origin

Rice water is extremely popular. Where did it originate? The practice of using rice water comes from the village of Huangluo.

This village has been coined the "Long Hair Village". The women who live here are called Yao women. These women are known for their shiny long hair, that refuses to turn gray. Median hair length is 4ft & 3 inches or 1.3 meters long!

Residents have even been featured in the Guinness Book of World Records! They credit their hair growth to fermented rice water. Which brings us to the benefits.

Benefits of rice Water:

It encourages growth. The amino acids in rice water equate to 8. Amino acids are extremely important for hair growth. 18 amino acids are required to produce protein and keratin. Rice water itself contains almost half of the amino acids needed.

Rice water also contains:

Vitamin B

- a key component of strong hair

Vitamin E

- Helps to help prevent hair loss

Vitamin C

- Produces sebum which helps keep the scalp moisturized.

More benefits include prevention of split ends, increased strength, increased shine. A surprising benefit is that rice water is said to cure dandruff.

Rice water also protects your hair from damage. It contains inositol, this carbohydrate has dual benefits. It can repair and avoid damage. It does this by reducing surface friction and increasing elasticity.
