How I learned to LOVE my hair!!
How did I learn to love my hair?
I have hair that has not always been the standard of beauty. Even if your hair is the standard sometimes we desire what others have or compare our hair. I have beautiful curls, my hair can also look like Samuel Jacksons in "Glass" if you let my brother tell it. He's not wrong, yet it's still so beautiful.
Here are some steps that helped my love my versatile tresses.
1.) Getting to Know my Hair
I learned my hair. I learned it's likes and dislikes. Doing so helped my hair cooperate with me. We developed a relationship that was no longer was superficial and lazy.
2.) I Stopped Comparing my Hair
Even to people who had hair that looked like mine. That was really harmful due to the fact that I could not understand why my hair was not doing what the "same" hair type was. When I compared m y hair it was impossible to appreciate the blessing that my hair truly is.
3.) I Left it Alone and just Admired it.
I gazed at my hair while it was in a fro. A fro without product or manipulation. In twist i just looked on as it did its thing. I gave it room to be itself in every style. I no longer worried about slicking my edges and "perfect" hair. My hair is perfectly mine.
4.) I Posted it
I posted my wild fro on social media. What a great way to reinforce the love you have for your hair. A place where people show admiration by tapping a heart. Affirming your love a tad. Although how other people feel about your hair does not matter, I can't say it doesn't feel good to have other people love on it.
Alll in all I treated my hair like a person I love. Showered it with love and support. Gave it attention and didn't judge it. I built a true relationship with my hair that didnt suffocate either of us. True love is has patience.
I hope this will help you all with your journeys! Remember, only your feelings matter.
